Frequently Asked Questions

What happens in the first session?

During the first session, we’ll get to know each other and explore your reasons for seeking therapy. This allows us to gather further important information and begin building a therapeutic relationship. Standard therapy sessions include approximately 45–50 minutes of face-to-face therapy, with an additional 10–15 minutes allocated to preparation and progress notes. This clinical preparation and documentation time is included in the session fee.

Do you offer telehealth?

Yes. Telehealth is available for suitable clients and presentations. Telehealth can provide a convenient and accessible way to receive therapeutic support; however, suitability varies depending on individual needs, circumstances, clinical presentation and risk considerations.

I will discuss with you whether telehealth is appropriate for your circumstances and may recommend in-person or alternative services where this would better meet your needs.

Do I need a referral?

No referral is needed to book privately. However, if you'd like to access a Medicare rebate, you'll need a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) from your GP. DVA and WorkCover clients will also need relevant documentation.

Do you work with neurodivergent individuals?

Yes. I have specialist training and extensive experience supporting neurodivergent children, adolescents, and adults including those with ASD, ADHD, and OCD. My approach is adapted wherever possible to accommodate individual sensory, communication and processing needs. Where additional or specialist supports are required, this will be discussed with the client and/or family.

What is Play Therapy and how does it help?

Play Therapy is an evidence-based approach that uses play as the therapeutic medium for children (typically ages 3–12). Because children communicate naturally through play rather than words, this approach allows them to express and process emotions, experiences, and challenges in a developmentally appropriate way. Research shows Play Therapy may be effective for anxiety, trauma, behavioural difficulties, and emotional regulation.

Is everything I share confidential?

Yes, confidentiality is a cornerstone of therapy. What you share in sessions is private. There are some legal exceptions — for example, if there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, or where mandatory reporting obligations apply (particularly in relation to child safety). I will explain these at your first appointment.
